Sony reveals the PSP successor

Although a little late for the show we couldn't start a games and technology blog without mentioning the recent announcement from Sony of their next handheld. Sony unveiled the NGP, Next Generation Portable(working title), in an event held on January 27th in Tokyo, Japan. Still on a prototype phase Sony's new handheld is quite impressive already with a similar look to the PSP only slightly bigger. It seems Sony listened to their consumer base, who had been asking for another analog stick on their consoles since the first PSP model, the PSP-1000.
For what we can see from the videos of the demos shown, it's a pretty powerful machine boasting PS3-like graphics in an impressively big screen. The specs are as follow:

Many have been the names in the video games industry that have already shown their support to the NGP and even John Carmack has tweeted that he expects "the Sony NGP to perform about a generation beyond smart phones with comparable specs."

The release date for Sony's handheld is still unclear but Sony has already shown intent in releasing the console in at least a region before the holidays' end of 2011 and as Sony already stated it will be affordable for an handheld.

We eagerly wait for more news on it.
